1、低语，耳语，私语
例句：
He told me in a whisper so that none else could hear.他低声告诉我，以免别人听到。

2、传闻，谣传
I've heard a whisper that he has cancer. 我听到他得了癌症的传闻。

whisper 和murmur使用上的区别
两个词意义差别还是有些大的。（资料来自网络版牛津）
whisper一般都指说话只有气流，没有声音（你大概能明白我在说什么吗？就是那种清辅音的感觉，而不是那种浊辅音的感觉），一般和秘密有关
例：He managed to whisper a faint goodbye.
murmur一般是那种连续而低沉的声响，比如LSS说的那种小声嘟囔，
例：Nina murmured an excuse and hurried away.
whisper在文学上可以指树叶等的窸窣声，而用murmur的时候声音更沉更响，不过这种用法二者意义总体较为接近
例：The thunder of the surf became a muted whisper.
又例：The wind was murmuring through the trees.
whisper还可以用于a whisper of，表示光斑、暗示
例：He didn’t show even a whisper of interest.
murmur作名词的时候可以指心里的感受，或者用于医学名词
例：There were murmurs of dissent from his colleagues.
