1 由and 连接两个名词或代词作主语时 A and B （A 和B）可分为下列四种情况
1．A,B 表不同的人、物或观念时两个词所表示的是不同的人，不同的事物或不同的概念时，谓语动
词要用复数形式。
Li Ming and Zhang Hua are good students.
李明和张华是好学生。
Both the teachers and the students are here.
老师和学生们都在这里。
注意
both A and B 作主语时，谓语动词用复数。
2．A,B 表同一个人、物或观念时
两个词所表示的是同一个人、同一事物或同一概念时，谓语动词要用单数形式。
A journalist and author lives in the courtyard.
一个新闻记者兼作家的人住在这个院子里。
The turner and fitter is under twenty-five.
这个车工兼钳工的工人不到二十五岁。
★当作句子的主语的两个名词具有对立的意思时，主语前用一个冠词不会使人发生误解。
A boy and a girl are playing together.
一个男孩和一个女孩在一起玩。
注意
同一个人只能用一个冠词，如果是不同的两个人就要用两个冠词。
3．A,B 之前有each, every, many a, no…………等修饰语
当and 连接几个单数主语，主语由each, every, no, many a 等词修饰时，谓语动词要用单数。
Each man and each woman is invited.
每一个男人和每一个妇女都受到了邀请。
Every man and woman is invited.
所有的男人和女人都被邀请。
No boy and no girl is there now.
现在那儿没有任何男孩和女孩。
Mary a boy and many a girl has been invited.
许多男孩和女孩都被邀请了。
★many a……也跟单数谓语动词]Mary a student likes pop songs.
许多学生喜欢流行歌曲。
4．A,B 为两个不可分的东西时，谓语动词用单数
A watch and chain was found on the desk.（视为一件东 西）
一只挂表在桌上找到了。
Bread and butter is nutritious.（视为一种食物）
奶油面包有营养。
2 由or; not only……but(also)……;either……or; neither……
nor 连接主语时
谓语的人称和数与靠近的主语一致（在叙述句与B 一致，在疑问句与A一致）
Either you or I am mad.
不是你，就是我疯了。
Neither you nor he is right.
你和他都不对。
★口语中neither…… nor……连结句子，动词也可用复数。所以 也可说Neither you nor he are right.
Not only the teacher but also his family were friendly to me.
不但是这位老师，连他的家人都待我很好。
3 当主语后跟有with, along with, together with, besides,
except, like, including, as well as, rather than 等词时
谓语动词不受词组的影响，仅和第一个主语（A）保持一致
All but one were here just now.(87)
所有的除了一个之外刚才都在这儿。
A liberary with five thousand books is offered to the nation
as a gift.(90)
一个有5000 册书的图书馆作为礼物送给了这个国家。
She as well as the other teachers is going to another park.
她和其他老师打算去另一个公园。
The father, rather than the brothers, is responsible.
父亲和哥哥们是负责任的。
A peasant together with some workers is about to help us.
一个农民和一些工人即将来帮助我们。
