several既可用作形容词，也可用作代词。作形容词用时， several有两种涵义：
1）各自的，个别的；
2）几个，数个，它只能修饰可数名词。如：
They went there several ways．他们各走各的路。
Several days later Grandma came to the library to borrow some more books．几天后，奶奶来到图书馆想再借几本书。
several用作代词时意为“几个；数个”。如：
I bought several books today. 今天我买了几本书。
