在英语中有些形容词置于形容词或名词之前可以起强调作用。比如good置于名词或形容词之前，起强调作用，在不同的句子中可译为：“足足”、“整整”、“狠狠地”、“相当”、“很”等。例如：
It'll take you a good four hours to get there.到达那里足足需要你四个小时。
His father gave him a good beating.他父亲狠狠地揍了他一顿。
I covered a good hundred miles that day.那天我整整走了一百英里。
而good和and结合起来构成程序副词作状语，表示强调。相当于very,thoroughly,completely等，强调and之后的形容词或副词。“good + and + 形容词或副词”这样的句式常用于口语当中。
1、good +and + 形容词，列如：
The flowers are good and beautiful.
这些花看起来非常漂亮。
The father was good and angry when Jack came home rather late.
杰克回家很晚，父亲十分生气。
The hostess prepared me a cup of tea, good and strong.
女主人给我冲了一杯茶, 浓浓的。
2、good +and + 副词，如：
I beat him good and hard. 我狠狠地揍了他一顿。
He drove good and fast. 他开车开得飞快。
除good之外，形容词nice,fine,sweet,rare,lovely等词也可以与and连用构成这一句式表强调。如：
The child was rare and hungry.这孩子饿得慌。
It was lovely and cool there.那儿非常凉爽。
I followed him into the room, fine and ashamed. 我十分羞愧地跟着他进了房间。
I didn’t like the speech, but at least it was nice and short.
我不喜欢这个讲话，但好在它很短。
The students are all fine and hard-working.
学生都很用功。
Jack knew nice and well that it was Tom who ran him down behind him.
杰克非常清楚是汤姆朝在背后说他的坏话。
在这一句式中，有时还可以用rare、bright等词代替good 、nice 或 fine。（bright 只用于 bright and early 短语中）
Well，I’m rare and glad to see you.
哦，见到你我真高兴。
I’ll first find something to eat. I am rare and hungry.
我得先找点东西吃，我快饿坏了。
We will set off bright and early tomorrow morning.
明天一清早我们就要动身。
